So the main problem that I have always had with Thor is that he is a god, but he needs a cute little hammer to activate his powers?  And what is his main attack?  Throwing the hammer away from himself.  Seems to me like this guy is just setting himself up for failure, but I went to go see Thor: the Dark World even though I did not enjoy the first film.  I did however enjoy several of the supporting performances so I gave it a go.

My wife was VERY excited to see this film.  I found this fact odd considering she tolerates, at best, my love of comic books, but the scene in the subway car made it all click.  I love Thor; because women love Thor.  We need more women reading comics, so take your girl to see Thor.  It might just be the thing that gateway drugs her into reading your new Locke and Key trade sitting next to your toilet.  It worked for me!  There is nothing quite so hot as the first time your girl asks when the next trade is coming out.

I found the performances very hit and miss overall.  Chris Hemsworth as Thor perfectly embodies the role, but Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is so good they are now drawing Loki in the comics to look like him.  But he’s just a kid in the comics, you say?  Check out Loki: Agent of Asgard #1 coming out in January 2014.

They are aging my beloved kid Loki into the gentleman you see above.  Hey Marvel, if you want to send me a preview copy, domesticateddave@gmail.com would be happy to give it a read.  Natalie Portman is still wooden as Jane Foster.  Her best moment, slapping Loki, was ruined in every trailer for the past few months.  Kat Dennings would have been an amazing Jane Foster, but she is relegated to second banana status as Foster’s intern.  However, she makes the most of what little screen time that she is given.  Anthony Hopkins brings his signature gravitas but seems to be just going through the motions.  Idris Elba’s Heimdall and Rene Russo’s Frigga won the bronze and silver medals in the acting category, but Hiddleston’s Loki is the world record gold medalist of this series.

I want to commend director Alan Taylor for greatly improving this franchise and making me even more excited about an upcoming Star Wars sequel.  The digital effects and sound design were dripping with the essence of LucasArts.  I didn’t even need to see their name in the credits to know they were taking good care of this franchise.  The aerial dogfight between the Dark Elves and Asgardians seemed like a warm up session for them to make many epic battles to come.  I especially enjoyed the design of the Dark Elves.  Their masks were especially unsettling.

Stick around for the credits, I beg of you.  Eighty percent of the people in the cinema I went to left as the credits started despite the protests of those of us sticking around.  I would tell you more about how I loved the end credits scene, but we are trying to keep this as spoiler free as possible.  Just promise me that you will stay.

I give Thor: the Dark World a strong Taste It.vvThe cameos in this movie were my favorite moments in the movie.  The fact that it was overshadowed by my excitement for the next Captain America and Star Wars kept it out of the old Tupperware.
