THE SUICIDE SQUAD (L-r) JOEL KINNAMAN as Colonel Rich Flag, ALICE BRAGA as Sol Soria, DANIELA MELCHIOR as Ratcatcher 2, KING SHARK, IDRIS ELBA as Bloodsport and JOHN CENA as Peacemaker

Violence and gore coat a creamy, heart-filled center

James Gunn’s career seems to come full circle is what can only be described as a superhero Troma flick. The movie’s feel-good moments are sandwiched beautifully between gruff humor, gloriously excessive carnage, and fleshed-out character arcs.

The uber-talented and familiar cast takes turns chewing the scenery while a largely unknown Daniela Melchior triumphs as the soul of the film.

The movie gets going very quickly and never gives you a chance to catch your breath. It’s the best part of your favorite thrill ride extended over two hours. It leaves you a tad uncomfortable, slightly nauseated and rushing back in line to ride again.

PCL Rating: TUPPERWARE

Rotten Tomatoes Rating: FRESH
