Batman: Hush, directed by Justin Copeland, is the newest offering in the lineup of DC animated movies. It was adapted by Ernie Altbacker from the Batman: Hush story arc created by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee.
I have been a tremendous Batman fan for most of my life and the paperback trade of Hush has long graced my bookshelf. It is a classic story of a mysterious new villain capable of bending the Dark Knight’s most sinister rogues to his will and forcing them to do his bidding. In the midst of this story, a romantic relationship blossoms between Batman and Catwoman which catapults the Caped Crusader into unfamiliar emotional territory. Hush has everything: mystery, action, heart, and suspense. Not mention it was drawn by the legendary Jim Lee.

All of that being said I was hesitantly excited going into this movie. The source material is incredible, but how was it going to be adapted? How much will the story be changed? Based on the trailers I knew the art style would be similar to the last several DC animated films, which in my opinion, looks great on the screen and really nails the action scenes.
After viewing Hush, I believe this movie will have two audiences. Comic book purists will have plenty of nitpicks to gripe about, but the animated film brings a solid amount of Jeff Loeb’s iconic Hush story-line to life on the screen which should satisfy casual fans.

Thematically this film pushes the relationship between Batman and Catwoman and goes so far as to change the character of Hush during the big reveal at the end. So, for this comic book fan, Hush left me wishing they had followed the source material more closely. Especially during the film’s third arc. Upon closer inspection of my gripes I realized that newcomers to this story will likely be perfectly satisfied with the story this film puts forth. Regardless of your background, I would absolutely recommend checking out Hush and deciding for yourself.
