Ultron and Vision Theories – Avengers Age of Ultron

Summer of 2015 cannot get here fast enough!  MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) fans are anxiously awaiting Avengers Age of Ultron that will conclude Phase II.  There’s a ton of questions that people are posing as we get closer to the film being released.  A ton of those questions surround the characters of Ultron and Vision.

Paul Bettany has played the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. in all of the Iron Man films as well as Avengers.  And he’s done a fantastic job.  Now, Bettany will not only be playing the voice but he’s playing Vision.  Now, in the comics Vision was created by Ultron.  And Ultron was created by brilliant scientist Hank Pym.  Now we all know we won’t be seeing the character of Hank Pym until 2 months after the release of Avengers Age of Ultron in Ant-Man in July of 2015.  So who creates Ultron in the MCU?  Does Ultron still create Vision?  Let’s talk about that first question.

So who creates Ultron in the MCU?  The popular theory was that Tony Stark will take the place of Hank Pym from the comics and be the creator of Ultron.  And up until the the official synopsis of the film was released that’s what most fans were thinking.  Now Cinema Blend has a new theory which states that Tony Stark only reactivates technology that was created by his father Howard Stark and a younger Hank Pym.  Now, let’s talk more about Ultron and Vision.

This is my theory.

In my theory we’re going to go along with Cinema Blend’s theory that Ultron is awoken by Tony Stark.  Okay, now let’s move on.  We see at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier that  Baron Wolfgang von Strucker has possession of Loki’s staff.  He also refers to the “age of miracles” and we get the first appearance of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.  We also know that both of these characters will be appearing in Avengers Age of Ultron.  So there should be a battle early on in the movie with von Strucker and his “miracles”.

Could that battle be with a reactivated Ultron sent by Tony Stark himself?  The MCU has done a great job of setting up their universe and putting different elements in this universe to play a purpose.  One of those being the the possible Infinity Stone in Loki’s staff.  The way it was able to control both Hawkeye and Erik Selvig one would think it was the Soul Gem from the comics.  Per Wikipedia:

Allows the user to steal, control, manipulate and alter souls, living or dead, and is the gateway to an idyllic pocket universe that is much like heaven. It also has the ability to steal the powers and abilities of others, which is why people argue that this gem is more powerful than the other gems. The Soul Gem is sentient and has a hunger for souls. It is often considered to be the most dangerous and corrupt of all the gems. Mastery of the gem would allow the user to control all living life in the universe.

What if Ultron retrieves Loki’s staff and it is indeed the Soul Gem or Stone as it would be called in the MCU?  According to Wikipedia it is sentient.  So from the trailer released at San Diego Comic Con the Avengers are throwing a party and having a great time when a very scary Ultron shows up and isn’t happy.  I believe that Tony Stark sends Ultron to fight this battle for the Avengers while they take a break and get more than they bargained for when Ultron retrieves Loki’s staff and becomes a sentient being.  But why would Ultron be upset at Tony Stark?

I think Ultron will still have access to all his memories before encountering the Soul Gem/Stone.  Could one of those memories be J.A.R.V.I.S.?  And now that Ultron is a sentient robot he might be a little angry at Tony Stark for not giving said J.A.R.V.I.S. a physical body.  And now we have our Vision.

***UPDATED***

Here is a quote from Bruce Banner when scanning Loki’s staff in the Helicarrier’s lab with Stark:

“The gamma readings are definitely consistent with Selvig’s reports on the Tesseract.”

I believe that the stones are one in the same and want to be reunited with one another.  Ultron will become one with the Stone and learn this information. Vision will also be privy to this information being his creation. When Vision ultimately becomes a good character he will reveal the existence of all 6 of these Stones to the Avengers.  And now we have our plot for Phase III!  The hunt for the Infinity Stones is on!

I hope you like my theory!  May 1st 2015 can’t get here soon enough!  Check out my podcast Pop Culture Leftovers on iTunes and Stitcher!
