A Man Called Otto is the newest Tom Hanks film that depicts a widowed grumpy man trying to navigate his life at what he feels should be the end. I am going to come out and say immediately that this movie was absolutely what it means to enjoy cinema at its finest. Tom Hanks was an absolute blast to watch on screen, and his interaction with his co-stars were some of my favorite scenes in the movie. He commanded the screen with his betrayal of Otto.

The film does a really good job of dividing the line of comedy and drama in how this film progresses. The drama aspect is heavy and it is never light hearted which I believe is important especially with what it deals with. On the other hand, the comedy is so poignant and tastefully done to counteract the drama that it is hard to not chuckle at the hard situations.

Marisol and Otto’s relationship is the winner here. The two actors play off each other to the point that I wish this was a series instead of just a two hour film. Do yourself a favor and see A Man Called Otto and be swept up in all of the emotion this film has to offer.

PCL RATING: High Taste It

Rotten Tomatoes Rating: FRESH
