Alot of people comment on our theme song and how they like it.  Can’t say I blame em.  It’s the best part of the show really.  Jake and myself were talking about doing a podcast back in Oct/Nov 2012 and one of the things we agreed on is that we needed an amazing theme song.  We felt we needed something to grab the listeners attention from the get go.   Because honestly, I felt that once listeners started listening to me they would turn us off in a heartbeat.  And even if you felt the show sucked at least you got to listen to a great song, right?  Things haven’t changed much since then.  We’re still a crappy show and it’s still a great song.

I wanted to share the story of how the song came to be.  I had heard of this band out of Canada called “Love You To Death” and they had done an Indiegogo (Canadian Kickstarter) where they would write and perform a theme song for you.  It wasn’t directed at shows it was directed at fans of their music.  So the lead singer would ask you a few questions about yourself and then sing a song about you.  Well, I asked if they would do a theme song not about me but for the show.  They agreed.

They wanted to know what exactly we wanted in the song.  I really knew that the band was amazing when it came to lyrics so I wanted them to have fun with it and pretty much have free reign.  So our theme song was born from this email to Love You To Death:

Our show is called Pop Culture Leftovers.  It’s a show about sci-fi, movies, comic books, dvd’s and blu-rays.  Mostly geek culture like Batman, Spider-man, Star Wars and Star Trek.   We’d like the song to kinda talk about how all the other podcasts are already being made and how there were no good names left for podcasts, no original ideas left, there are too many pop culture podcasts as it is and how all the talent is on other podcasts already.  We’re the Leftovers.  Picking up scraps as we go.  We’re like Danny Devito in Twins.  We’re the crap leftover.  The only talent in this podcast is the band singing the song.  We have a ratings system where if we don’t like something we “toss it”, if we like it we “taste it” and if we all love it we have a “Tupperware party”.  You don’t have to incorporate this at all but it’s just more info.  You all are great with lyrics so we trust you.  And there is no offending us so you don’t have to hold back.   Insult us all you want.  lol   Anyway, just like a theme song and maybe some exit music for when the show ends.  Just have fun with the song and do whatever.  No limits.  Work in what you can and if you have ?’s email me.  Thanks!

And that’s the origin of the theme song!  Pretty amazing that with just that one email they were able to put together such a catchy song!  Just something fun I thought I’d share with the Leftover Army.

The full song is available on the band’s website and check out the video for “I Love Kissing You”. The last minute or so is strangely super hot.
